Jupiter- GRS continues to show interesting developments

About this image
Hi all,
Here  are two drawings of Jupiter made last night with Dr Hugh Sasse using the University of Leicester Observatory.  Conditions were quite poor initially but improved a little as Jupiter gained a little altitude.  A number of points to note:
  • Both the SSTB and STB seem to have little distinguishing features at this latitude.
  • GRS region continues to show developments- it now seems that the brown collar surrounding the spot is starting to encroach on it.  The RSH seems distinctly yellowish in colour.
  • EZ yellowish and a number of bluish festoons present.
  • NEB very active- particularly along the northern edge.  It seems that an oval type structure has developed in the NEBn at the same sort of longitude as the GRS.
  • NTB and NNTB showed little details.
We also examined the planet with a W15 and W80A filter- the contrast of the dark components of the SEB, NEB and GRS were markedly increased.
Best wishes,
-Paul
