About this image

The Perseids are building up to their maximum during the early hours of Aug 13 and the current weather system is allowing us some tempting glimpses of the display.

This meteor was captured as it dived down past the Keystone in Her. (The image has been rotated 180 degrees). Single-station analysis of the video clip gave it an apparent mag of -3.5. William Stewart also recorded it from Ravensmoor, Cheshire as a mag -5 meteor. Combining our data confirmed it was a Perseid with an absolute mag of -5, a fireball class event with a very bright terminal flash and a persistent glowing train.

Fingers crossed for some clear intervals during the next few nights.
