Title

Melvyn Taylor's hand-drawn foldout star chart

About this image

Melvyn Taylor's archive doesn't only contain seemingly interminable numbers of unrecorded variable star observations.

One of his little notebooks has some of his early observations from 1963 - 1964 when he was 16 or 17 years old. They record his sketches of double stars and his first views of Jupiter and its Galilean moons, and Saturn, through his small 'scope.

Inside the back cover is his hand-drawn foldout star chart. It's a nice piece of work.

If you have a young astronomer in the household this would be a good project to keep them busy and help them to learn the night sky.

That is a beautifully produced star chart. Good old Melvyn!

Thanks for sharing, Alex.

Hi Jeremy,

As you know, Melvyn contributed numerous comparison star charts to the Variable Star Section and many VS light curves in Journal papers were hand-drawn by him. You can see the young draughtsman developing his skills in creating the attached chart.

Clear skies,

     Alex.
