About this image

With all the excellent Mars images around at the moment it is probably a good time to feature something a bit different.  We haven't had a globular cluster for some time so here is a fine example of one taken by Geof Lewis.

Messier 107 is also known as NGC 6171. It is a very loose globular cluster in the constellation Ophiuchus, and is the last globular cluster in the Messier Catalogue. It was discovered by Pierre Méchain in April 1782, then independently by William Herschel in 1793.
