About this image

This is the first time I have used the ZWO camera for imaging the ISS. The big advantage compared to my previous camera seems to be its greater dynamic range which allows the panels and cooling radiators to both be reasonably well exposed. The exposure time of 5ms was possibly a bit too long, next time I might shorten that and up the gain. The telescope tends to vibrate during tracking and shorter exposure would help to freeze that motion.

This was a lucky observation the clouds disappeared only 10 minutes before the pass.

That's an excellent shot, Phil, and you get the more oblique view since the station's track is to the south of you. Were you using a Barlow to enlarge the image?

Thanks Chris. I am pleased with this image. I didn't use a Barlow because at f10 with the 3.7 micron pixels the ZWO is just about 2x oversampled for the scope's theoretical resolution of 0.5 arcsec. I used to use a Barlow with the Skyris which has 6.5 micron pixels. Also not using a Barlow means a bigger field and it's obviously easier to keep in frame. There is ample opportunity here for an anaglyph there are some more nice sharp frames in the next few seconds of the pass.

Philip (and Chris). I'll be showing your amazing images in Sky Notes tomorrow. How do you track the space station with your respective setups? Any chance of posting a short clip of the raw video?
