Theophilus Crater

About this image

A drawing I made last nbight of Theophilus crater using my 12" Newtonian. A somewhat tricky observation due to low altitude and high cloud which kept drifting across the image. I am still experimenting with various artistic techniques to bring about a realistic impression of Lunar features but this one isn't too bad.

This crater was formed between some 2.2 and 1.1 billion years ago and the Apollo 16 mission collected rock samples believed to be ejected from this crater when it was formed.
