About this image

This spectrum was taken from the comet's halo. It was at an altitude of 10 deg, and the reference star (Merak) was at 20 deg. This means the relative intensities of the various emission lines will not be accurate. It shows Swan Bands due to diatomic carbon emissions, and also CN (cyanogen) and CH.
