About this image

Mercury imaged in a short window of fair seeing between the clearing of some high cloud and the development of cumulus, which caused the seeing to degrade badly. Frame selection was made initially using PIPP and Autostakkert!3, then by eye from the best fourteen of forty-one videos. The terminator is in almost the same position as on the 30th July, but the increase in phase means that the albedo features nearer the bright limb have rotated further onto the disk. Normal and blurred Messenger images are shown for comparison.
