About this image

This is the result of a personal 'luminance' experiment. The usual approach is to use either a red or IR image as a luminance channel. This certainly enhances the surface detail but can suppress any clouds that are largely visible in blue light. These have been fairly scarce this apparition so it is not a major issue thus far.

This afternoon while reading the Registax manual (!) I discovered the 'Colour Mixing' option. This allows construction of a luminance channel from all three RGB images balancing the contribution of each. In this way it is possible to retain more of the blue image's contribution.

The result seems quite pleasing.
