About this image

I had a brief window of opportunity to try to image the Sun today and had planned to do more using both the Herschel wedge and a Quark Chromosphere separately with the same scope, but the weather and technical issues limited me to a short session with my colour deep sky camera through the Herschel wedge only.   The solar disc looks in stark contrast to 14 days ago when we had a massive sunspot as well as two others in sight.  Today there was just one tiny sunspot that has come recently into view and the remains of another about to disappear round the rim.
