About this image

I purchased a set of Chroma filters last October and have been unable to image ever since due to poor weather! Finally in late February / early March I managed a few hours albeit at full moon.

Being a full moon First Light had to be narrowband and before it disappears over the western horizon for another year, the Rosette Nebula. I’m very pleased with the final image which was processed using the SHO Hubble Palette with PixInsight and Photoshop. The Chroma filters have handled stars well but overall it is the more delicate tone which is most pleasing. Applying Hartmut Bornemann’s excellent colour calibration script AutoColor for the first time has also resulted in a soft but exciting colour palette.

In conclusion I’d say that despite the obstacles, issues and long wait, on the evidence so far the addition of the Chroma filters to my set-up has been very successful – transformative in fact.
