Abell 1656 - The Coma Cluster

About this image

Abell 1656 - The Coma Cluster is a large cluster of galaxies in the direction of Coma Berenices, containing upwards of 1000 identified galaxy members at an average distance of about 320 million light years (99Mpc). This a wide field view of the cluster - there are 84 entries in the NGC/IC catalogues in this field alone, as well as a further 838 objects in the PGC/LEDA catalogue - and an almost uncountable number of further fainter objects in the background. Worth having a look at the enlarged image to explore the background!
