The Valentine Dome, 19th April 2021

About this image

The so-called Valentine Dome is a low volcanic feature, about 100 metres high and 35 km across, near the northwest edge of Mare Serenitatis. It lies above and just to the right of the centre of this image. It is feature number 89 in Charles Wood's Lunar 100, and is difficult to see except when very near the terminator. The terminator lay exactly across it on the evening of the 18th, and rather too far west on the 19th, when this image was taken, to show it at its best.
