NGC 1 & NGC 2

About this image

NGC 1 principally observed as a (successful) attempt on its neighbour NGC 2. Fairly bright and easy.  Elongated with a bright, almost stellar nucleus. NGC 2 Very faint. Slight elongation suspected. No central brightening seen and no hint of further structure. It's interesting to compare this observation with that made of NGC 1 on 31/8/1997 (97/21) when NGC 2 was not seen, although I knew it was in the same field. I think the main reason for this is magnification. The previous observation was made at x83. The current observation, made at x150, gave the better view all round.
