About this image

Saturn imaged in Ant III seeing. All but two of the videos captured in this session showed an artefact when processed: a bright stripe on the ring at the edge of the planet's shadow. This may have been due to imperfect focusing, poor seeing or something else. The two videos used for this image were recorded with a shorter exposure and higher gain, and yielded a stack of 4000 out of 10000 frames to be processed into the final image. Processing was in PIPP, Autostakkert!3 and Registax.

Chris

My brief period of imaging from the same night and almost the same time also shows a brighter stripe next to the shadow.   An unusual coincidence if a processing artefact so perhaps an increased reflection on the rings for some other reason related to Saturn's interaction with sunlight.
