About this image

Venus is only a target for me this elongation shortly before it passes the meridian in daytime.  At 15 degrees altitude I had a window of nearly an hour but now it is barely clearing 11 degrees I only have about 20 minutes when it clears the local horizon (if the sky is clear!).     This is a comparison of the image size obtained with an ASI178MM on 3oth October, the day after maximum elongation, with an image taken on 10th October with a 2.1x fused silica Barlow and the ASI174MM.  Venus was a fifth larger although thinner on 30th but even allowing for that the ASI178 captures a significantly larger image without needing a Barlow.

The ASI178 is known to have better sensitivity at the UV end of the spectrum but in the brief window I had on 30th conditions were quite poor and I wasn't able to capture a sequence in UV that could be processed. As it was, only one of the four videos I took in IR was good enough to produce a reasonable image of Venus.
