About this image

Stephan's Quintet is partially a  'visual' galactic cluster in that four of the galaxies (the slightly redder ones) are genuinely in close proximity with each other at around 300m light years, whereas the fifth (the larger blueish one) is a 'foreground object' at 40m light years distant. The small spiral galaxy to the centre right (NGC 7320C) is also at the same distance as the main group but is a separate object. The four galaxies in the main group also comprise Hickson Compact Group 92.

While my image used 6 hrs of expsoure there are much deeper ones around which show more of the tidal tails and arms of these galaxies. Its also a quite small object at around 3.5arc mins so quite challenging to resolve much detail
