About this image

I've been experimenting recently to see if any of my zoom lenses for use with a Canon DSLR would work with my ZWO deep sky cameras.  The results with a 75-300 mm Canon Zoom lens were disappointing due to its lack of light gathering ability. The larger Sigma Zoom has done better although it is reluctant to give round stars if pushed to its highest magnification.

This image has been cropped to get rid of the worst distortion of stars at the edges of the field of view and with the Sigma Zoom set at 300 mm.  No flats or darks so surprisingly OK in the circumstances!

Nice results! What F number on the zoom lens?

The Sigma zoom lens runs from f5 at 170 mm to f/6.3 at 500 mm so I imagine it was operating at around f/5.5 to 6 for my image.

Amazing.

Around here the sky background would be orange.
