About this image

Located in the Virgo Cluster, this spiral galaxy lies about 45million ly distant. Diameter c.160,000 ly. Apparent magnitude 11.0. The galaxy is inclined 74 degrees, so appearing almost edge-on. It was discovered by Pierre Méchain in March 1781.
