About this image

Tuesday 22nd February was a remarkably clear night right up to the Moon rising around 1 am. I spent the evening exploring several objects using my new AS294 camera and finding its sensitivity and speed intoxicating to use. The camera brings faint subjects into view with just a few relatively short exposures, Something of contrast compared to my QSI 683 mono.

For the time being, I've settled on 2-minute exposures at unity gain (120 on the camera) to keep the majority of stars from saturating so that I can still capture something of their colour - I think my mono QSI CCD camera did do a better job of this.

I've stretched this image more than I would normally to try and bring out something of the very faint nebulosity to the right - there is just a suspicion of it. The white dwarf star at the centre is clearly visible and shows pale blue.
