About this image

These \\\'peculiar\\\' interacting galaxies consist of NGC3395, right, and NGC3396, left. There is some uncertainty about the classification of these objects. NGC3395 looks rather like a barred spiral in this image, with a claw-like arm to the west. NGC3396 has a bow-tie shape, perhaps indicating an edge-on spiral.

I have not been able to find much information about these galaxies, but they appear to have been discovered by William Herschel (who else!).
