An object that needs no introduction . . . but it might be worth mentioning that the Crab Nebula was not discovered by Charles Messier nor by William Herschel but by Dr John Bevis (1695-1771) who saw it in 1771.

Distance c.6,500ly. Diameter c.11ly. Apparent mag. 8.4.
