About this image

Another Seyfert galaxy with a supermassive black hole at the core, this time NGC 3079 Seyfert 2 Barred Spiral Galaxy in Ursa Major. Also known as the Phantom Frisbee Galaxy, magnitude +10.8, about 50 million light years away. A prominent feature of this galaxy is the "bubble" forming in the very centre.

Also captured nearby were PGC 28990 and NGC 3073:

PGC 28990 is a spiral galaxy (Sb), magnitude +14.4, some 71 million light years from our solar system.

NGC 3073 is a dwarf lenticular galaxy, magnitude +13.4, appearing as a faint, circular patch of haze. Some 65 million light years from Earth it belongs to the NGC 3079 group.
