About this image

As this year is the bicentenary of William Herschel's death, it was especially interesting to visit the excellent Herschel Museum in New King Street, Bath. This image of a superb scale model of the 40' telescope, shows the great man at the eyepiece - a lofty perch! The telescope was the largest telescope in the world for 65 years.
