About this image

The image shows M105 (right), NGC3384 (upper) and the much fainter NGC3389 (lower left). M105 is an elliptical galaxy and was discovered by Pierre Méchain in March 1781. Distance c.32million ly. Diameter c.54,000 ly. Apparent mag. 10.2.  NGC3384 is a lenticular galaxy, apparent mag. 10.9, and NGC3389 is a spiral galaxy, apparent magnitude 12.4. M105 and NGC3384 are believed to be members of the same galaxy group. NGC3389 is more remote.
