Title

K2 ion tail?

About this image

I processed the bottom image in DSS with kappa-sigma clipping to show the extent of tail. I suspect it's also showing an early ion tail emission, further observations required to confirm.

An excellent image and well done picking up the very faint ion tail in PA 145. This is in the true anti-solar direction whereas the dust tail to the north is in the projected orbital plane. There is a strong apparent jet feature in the inner coma (you can see it here) which is in a similar PA to the ion tail but I don't think that they are related.
