About this image
On Saturday 25th June I planned to attend the summer picnic of the SHA being held in Bath, which included a private visit to the Herschel Museum of Astronomy and a guided tour around the city. I couldn't travel to Bath that weekend because of the train strikes, but I rescheduled my visit for the mid-week following.
The Museum was quiet, then 5 visitors arrived after me. I spent 90 minutes in the building and I had it to myself for the last 45 minutes, whereas the SHA visit would have been with a group of 15.
It was most relaxing to sit in the arbor, looking back towards the house and garden, musing on William Herschel's discovery of the planet Uranus, and the collaborative work with his sister Caroline and her independent discoveries.
