Title

The Transit of Iapetus

About this image

I wanted to observe this transit but it was cloudy up to ~23:00 on the 17. It then began to clear with some variable patches. Often some thin cloud hung over Saturn for extended periods, The seeing was generally poor which made focussing difficult

A number of images were taken until it became light. Some showed nothing but on a few such as this one, Iapetus appeared as a faint spot. The position matches that predicted by WinJupos for this time.
