About this image

This interesting barred spiral galaxy was discovered by William Herschel in 1784. Also known as the Superman Galaxy (for reasons I have not been able to discover), its 'peculiar' shape probably reflects a prior galaxy merger.

Distance: c.105million ly. Apparent mag. 11.6.
