NGC6894 Planetary Nebula in Cygnus (wide field)

About this image

This attractive planetary nebula - well named the Diamond Ring Nebula - was discovered by William Herschel in July 1784. As the subject of the Deep Sky Section's 'Observers' Forum' in the 2022 August Journal, I decided to seek it out. This 'wide field' image clearly shows the 'diamond' in the ring, and the diminuitive size of the nebula set in a mass of Milky Way stars. Well worth observing.

Apparent diameter 42". Apparent mag. 12.3. Distance c.5,000ly.

Bortle 7/8, Moon waxing gibbous 93%, 12 days old, low in SW, high cloud.
