About this image

This faint spiral galaxy lies a little over 1 degree away from the M13 globular cluster in Hercules. It was discovered by William Herschel in May 1787.

Distance uncertain but perhaps 30-60million ly, and certainly many times further than M13. Apparent mag. c.11.7.

Bortle 7/8, no Moon.
