About this image

This faint spiral galaxy, located within the Great Square of Pegasus, was discovered by William Herschel in September 1784.

This image shows a brighter, though diffuse, nucleus surrounded by an irregularly illuminated disk with few signs of distinct structure.

Diameter c.58,000 ly. Distance c.85million ly.  Apparent mag. 11.9.

Bortle 7/8, no Moon.
