After the formal lecture programme of ESOP41 in Granada, we were treated to a full day private visit to Calar Alto. One of the staff astronomers was the guide for our exclusive tour of the 3.5 m, 2.2 m, 1.2 m telescopes and the 0.8 m Schmidt.

The huge mirror of the 3.5 metre instrument was being removed for re-aluminising. The photo at top right is a capture from one of my videos of the engineers dismantling the mirror cell's outer framework.
