Title

Lhires III solar scan in Halpha 220923

About this image

Used ROI to select the hydrogen alpha line (wavelength of 656.3nm) and used speed rate of x8 on mounts handset so as to force the motion of the Sun across the slit. After using reconstruction software Solex-ser-recon I used Astrosurface to sharpen and PS CS2 to add false colour.

Wow! Infinitely better than my crude attempts at this with the LHIRES back in 2006. Spectroheliography with modern software seems to be offering a realistic alternative to narrow band filters with the added flexibility of being able to chose the wavelength. It could be time to revisit this methinks. Would this be worth a writeup on how to do  this for the Equipment and Techniques newsletter perhaps ?

Thank you Robin, certainly is addictive! I am still learning the method so maybe later in time I would be more than happy to do a write up for the newsletter.
