About this image

A couple of weeks ago whilst rummaging in the loft I came across the photos I took of Comet Halley during my trip to Australia.  I had only ever looked at them using a projector but as I now have a film scanner I decided to see if I could apply some additional processing to them. All the photos other than this one image suffered from poor tracking or insufficient exposure.

Scanned in at 3600 DPI to give a 5017 x  3372 pixel, 48-bit TIF file, it was certainly more challenging to process than modern stacked DSLR images.  Comet Halley is the smudge in the middle straddling the Milky Way just below Scorpius's tail.  The bright star at the very top of the image is Antares.

It's great to see another picture of Halley's 1986 return emerge from the depths of an old slide collection. There are a few others taken on 1986 April 6 in the Comet Section archive here including one rather poor one by me taken from Tenerife.
