About this image

This colourful dwarf spiral galaxy in Draco was discovered by Arthur von Auwers in 1854. It lies at the edge of the Local Void, a region relatively sparsely populated with galaxies (or maybe not at all).

The image shows the galaxy edge-on standing vertical in the frame. A small, faint nucleus is seen at the centre of a diffuse disk which shows little structure and no sign of spiral arms..

Diameter c.30,000ly. Distance c.18million ly.  Apparent size 7.1'x2.4'.  Apparent mag. 10.2.

Bortle 7/8, extensive high cloud, Moon waxing gibbous, 99%, 14 days old.
