About this image

Mars is starting to shape up nicely with increasing diameter. This image was a bit of a challenge to obtain. The laptop froze several times and then the telescope drive had occasional fits of veering off to the east. As a result, only one video was obtained for each filter, fortunately they turned out OK.

Syrtis Major is the dark wedge to the left of centre, with bright Hellas above it. Richard McKim has pointed out that it still has a yellowish tinge from the dust fallout from the recent storm. Sinus Sabaeus extends to the right with forked Sinus Meridiani at its end close to the limb, immediately preceded by bright Edom. The North Polar Hood remains large and bright.
