About this image

NGC7248 is a lenticular galaxy and NGC7250 and irregular galaxy, both located in Lacerta. They were both discovered on the same night (1790 Nov 8) by William Herschel.

Visually they appear of roughly equal size and brightness - small and faint! NGC7248 apparent size 1.65'x0.85' apparent mag. 12.4: NGC7250 apparent size 2.0'x0.9' apparent mag. 12.6.

But NGC7248 is four times further away than NGC7250, c.185million ly as against c.40-45million ly, and about four times as large, c.90,000ly as against c.25,000 ly.

Bortle 7/8, no Moon, seeing fair.
