This edge-on spiral galaxy in Cetus was discovered by William Herschel in December 1783.

This image, using the COAST, shows a large, bright nucleus (brighter above the disk than below) with a thick dust lane and diffuse halo.

Distance c.40-75million ly. Diameter c.115,000ly. Apparent mag. 11.4.
