Title

Segue 3 - a very small and faint globular cluster

About this image

Segue 3 may well be the smallest globular cluster in the galaxy. Its total luminosity is around 100-300 times solar and only 32 stars have been confidently assigned to the cluster, the brightest of which is 17th magnitude. The next half dozen or so are 19th -20th magnitude; this image goes down almost to 21.0 and show roughly half the stars in the cluster.

It was tracking down Balbinot 1, as a result of an observers' challenge, which led me to trying for Segue 3. Unfortunately, round tuits have been in short supply this last couple of years and I have only just processed the images.
