About this image

This was taken very low tech and against a basic principle we always tell beginners not to do!   I set up my 70 mm refractor on a manual Alt-Az mount indoors upstairs as my own house blocks my observatory at that angle.   Come the time of the event I realised to my horror that I couldn't get to the open window and still see the view, so this was taken through the double glazing and still somehow came out!

Hi Peter,

Great result!

Good astronomy can be done from indoors. Some of my video meteor cameras are on a window sill in a spare bedroom and they've worked for years through double glazing.

A Zoom meeting by the Solar Section showed how a member takes high quality H-alpha images without going outside. George Alcock found his 5th comet whilst looking through double glazing.

This might not work for everyone.

Perhaps the BAA should have an Indoors Section.

Cheers,

Alex.
