About this image

Following my previous animation of this nebula I thought I'd see if animation of other images I've taken would reveal any changes, and they do.

This repeating animation is in two parts separated by blank frames. The first part shows six images taken between 2020/12/14 and 2021/3/21 in which I can just make out a semicircular arc of light moving up the cone of the nebula from the base. This sequence ends with a couple of frames in which the arc (actually two of them) is revealed by subtracting a base image from each of the dated images and contrast stretching the difference.

In the second part of the animation four images taken between 2021/11/28 and 2022/11/28 show changes at the base of the cone, in particular the light bridge between the star R Mon and the base of the cone of the nebula. The light bridge moves from centre to left i.e. to the east. This is a slightly more detailed version of my previous animation.

This is a variable nebula where changes are sometimes more easily seen by blinking between or animating images taken.
