About this image

This galaxy cluster is part of the Perseus-Pisces Supercluster. Of the nine galaxies identified in this image, four were discovered by William Herschel on the night of 1786 September 21, and five by Bindon Stoney on the night of 1850 October 28. The galaxies are:

Abell 262   mag     dist size
NGC700 lenticular 15.6 Bindon Stoney Oct 28 1850
NGC703 lenticular 14.5 William Herschel Sep 21 1786 237Mly
NGC704 lenticular 14.1 William Herschel Sep 21 1786 220Mly 40kly
NGC705 lenticular 14.5 William Herschel Sep 21 1786
NGC708 giant elliptical 14.5 William Herschel Sep 21 1786 220Mly
NGC709 lenticular 15.2 Bindon Stoney Oct 28 1850
NGC710 spiral 14.3 Bindon Stoney Oct 28 1850 116Mly
NGC714 lenticular 13.9 Bindon Stoney Oct 28 1850
NGC717 lenticular 14.7 Bindon Stoney Oct 28 1850

NGC704 is a double galaxy with a mag. 15 lenticular companion, NGC704B. It is unclear whether they are physically related.

Bortle 7/8, full Moon 15 days old.
