About this image

NGC 7331 (Caldwell 30) at magnitude +9.44 is the main galaxy in this image and is an unbarred spiral galaxy about 40 million light-years away in the constellation of Pegasus. The other members in the group - NGC 7335, NGC 7336, NGC 7337 & NGC 7340 all lie far in the background at much greater distances of around 300-350 million light-years.

NGC 7331 is sometimes referred to as "the Milky Way's twin" although this similarity is now in doubt as our Milky Way is believed to be a barred spiral.
