Comet 29P's expanding coma

About this image

The coma of 29P/Schwassmann-Wachmann continues to expand following its series of outbursts in late November. The comet is now less than two days away from occulting a star. This star is marked to the right of the comet. The occultation will not be visible from the UK but is perfectly placed for the west coast of California and passes over Mt. Palomar. For more news on 29P see the Mission 29P pages on the Comet Section website.

Nick:  Pleased you recorded the star in the same field.  It was just off the edge of my images from last night.
