Boxing Day Venus and Mercury

About this image

Venus in particular is close enough to the Sun that pointing at Venus causes sunlight to reflect on the corrector of the SCT and down the optical chain.  Both are also currently quite low in our skies too.  Luckily for me my neighbour's house can obstruct the low Sun, leaving me around 45 minutes of opportunity to image Venus and Mercury before they too disappear behind my neighbour's house.    This was an experiment using narrow IR filter combinations to see how well a sensitive mono camera could perform in bright skies on bright targets.  The answer was surprisingly well in the circumstances.
