About this image

Happy New Year 2023 everyone. With my best wishes for Peace and Prosperity.

I now bring a classic of these days, a wide-field capture of these two beautiful objects of the winter sky, as if celebrating a dance at the New Year's Concert. They are data from just one year ago that were waiting for their time to be processed.

The Flaming Star Nebula, cataloged as IC 405, SH 2-229, or Caldwell 31, appears to the right of this image. It is an emission/reflection nebula in the constellation Auriga that surrounds the blue star AE Aurigae with an apparent magnitude of 6.0. It is about 1,500 light years from Earth and is 5 light years across.

On the left of the image we have the Tadpoles Nebula, cataloged as IC 410, a weak emission nebula so called because inside this gaseous mass there are regions of colder, denser gas and dust, whose shape resembles larvae. of amphibian. Its interior houses the open cluster of young stars NGC 1893 that ionize the glowing gas of the nebula and are also responsible for the wind and stellar radiation that shape the tadpoles. These are about 10 light-years long and are likely star-forming regions. IC 410 is at least 10,000 light-years away.
