About this image

The images above are cropped from images made on 15th December 2022 and 21st January 2023. In the December image I was struck by the prominent dark 'shadow'  running from NE to SW across the nebula (I put an arrow to highlight it). It's like a veil in that one can still see features behind it that are brighter above and below the 'veil'. This has been there for some time previous. The January 21st image looks a bit different and I've made the animation above to show the change. In my imagination it looks like the 'veil' has broadened to the south and features are not so visible through it. However it surely can't be a material cloud that's moving as it couldn't move so far in a short space of time. So presumably it's actually a shadow cast by material moving in front of T Tauri. Who knows, I don't!

Thats a nice piece of work.

As you say, at that distance from T Tau, a material object would be moving pretty fast, so I reckon your shadow puppets idea is right.

I vaguely recall it being suggested that T Tau's polar axis was mainly toward us ie perpendicular to the plane of the sky so it possible the shadow is being cast by some lump on the accretion disc, close into the star.

It will be interesting to see how this develops and whether these feature changes repeat.
