About this image

Overcast and damp all day but the clouds started to disperse at sunset and by the time the sky was dark it was completely clear. It turned out to be one of those nights where the seeing looks horrible on the screen but processing pulls out enough frames to give a worthwhile image.

Solis Lacus is to the upper left. To its upper left is a bright cloud looking for all the world like a polar cap - its not! Just below centre, the dark spot is the volcano Ascraeus Mons and halfway to the limb at the four o'clock position is Nix Olympica (Olympus Mons).
