Northern Lights in North Norway

About this image

This image is a panorama stitched together from four separate images, using Affinity to create and edit.  They were taken over a 5 minute period. It shows a homogeneous band towards the north, but extending from NW to NE between mountain peaks.  It appeared and then promptly faded over a period of about twenty minutes. I found a sheltered spot on a snowy path (the camera tripod legs were embedded in about 15cm of snow). Although predominantly green there are some fainter red shades on the upper edge of the band at the extremes.  The Milky Way forms a faint arc but displaced slightly to the west (left) of the band. In the left of the image the Perseus double cluster and Andromeda Galaxy are just visible (the latter actually tinged green as it lies behind the auroral band). To the right Deneb and Vega are also visible. I saw the Aurora on two of the four nights spent at this location. I consider myself very lucky! Where I live in SW France I have never seen the Northern Lights.
